Viking Oceangoing Trading Ship

Ever wondered how duke William's cavalry made it across the english channel ? Certainly not on a classic longship of the time, which had a needle shape with very little room for anything but the crew.

This probably would have been the kind of ship that they used.  To be quite honest, I had modeled the ship largely because I had wanted to find out how many 1:72 scale horses I could fit inside !

This scale model complements my previous smaller viking trading ship model in 1:72 scale.  Like the free small viking warship, you can print it on a 22x22cm plate in its original scale by placing it diagonally on your printing plate. This model includes smooth hull planks and a proper rudder.  Also,  there now are holes drilled into some of the ribs to accomodate any rigging that you may want to add, which is a whole lot more realistic than the pegs that I had put on my earlier ships. Some blocks for the rigging are also included, they print out OK on a FDM printer at standard settings as long as you dont reduce the scale.  If you try to reduce the blocks to smaller size, you will need to use a resin printer.

All of my earlier ship models here will now be updated to this new standard of quality/historical accuracy during the coming month, so that when you print them out now they will fit right in with this new model.  Enjoy !

Update 20.07.2021: After printing a few of these models at reduced scale, I have now updated both the hull and the stand files slightly.

Update 15.08.2021: Added a version that actually has the openings for some oars (Version A)!

Update 21.02.2021: Added a waterline version of Model A, also slight improvements on benches in the main version.
