Sigmund grew up in the barrows, far to the north. Descended from giants, his people settled in the cold mountains, creating villages and burial mounds. Being the youngest son of the village chief did not carry many expectations, so Sigmund lived a mostly carefree and optimistic life. A simple life however, cannot last long in the barrows.
Following a violent dispute between tribes he would see his father fall in combat, and his brother rise to take his role as leader of their village. While he had much support from the village, there were many would disagreed with such a young man filling this role, and a large number of barrowmen would leave the tribe. With such a large reduction in numbers the village began to appear weak and unguarded, for some factions this invited conflict. Following a small raid against the village Sigmunds brother would also meet his end in combat, and with the loss of two leaders the remaining villagers would lose confidence in their ability to survive alone.
Sigmund tries to hold on to his optimism, and pride, but he has no answers for the tragedies and conflict that plague the barrows. It seems there is no longer the place for him here. Consulting with the gods and elders he takes an oath to preserve his peoples histories, and sets out in search of wisdom, and justice.
